Online tool helps with gear unit and motor selection
Different applications require different gear units and motors. KEB Automation offers the perfect power for a wide range of applications. But how do users know which motor is best suited to their specific requirements? Which gear unit is best for the tasks of the machine or system? The “KEB-DRIVE” tool helps users find the right components. KEB-DRIVE recently unveiled a new design and is now available as an online application.
From power and maximum speed to the desired gearbox type and required IP protection class, right down to specifications for the mounting position: When selecting the appropriate gear unit with the suitable asynchronous or synchronous motor for a specific application, various factors must be taken into account. Under these conditions, finding exactly the right components for your own machine or system can be challenging. The online tool “KEB-DRIVE” makes the search and configuration process easier.
This tool was developed in-house by KEB and allows users to select from an extensive product range and customize numerous drive systems with various options to suit their specific application. Daniel Lehmann, Head of Sales and Marketing at KEB Antriebstechnik: “Our customers know their individual requirements best. That’s why we’re providing KEB-DRIVE – a way for them to configure customized gearmotor solutions themselves with just a few clicks.”
How Users Benefit
Previously, the tool was available exclusively as a local desktop application. In addition to a new design, the launch of the web-based version brings further advantages. It eliminates the need for installation, updates can be performed automatically, and KEB-DRIVE can be accessed from anywhere, since only an internet connection—not a specific device—is required. The benefits that users already enjoyed with the tool’s previous version are retained in the web version: “The configuration provides our customers with ready-to-use product data, 2D dimensional drawings, and 3D models, as well as technical details for seamless integration into the development process,” says Lehmann. In this way, for example, designers gain a reliable understanding of how the components can be integrated into their specific application.
If any uncertainties arise during configuration, users can access documentation with further information at any time. Once all necessary parameters have been entered into the software, users immediately receive a clear description of the proposed drive system, complete with all relevant figures, data, and facts. This allows users to see at a glance, for example, the gear ratio, the exact transmission ratio, the output speed, information on lubricants and color coding, as well as many other aspects.
From Component to System Solution
As a system provider, KEB not only supplies gearboxes and motors manufactured at its Schneeberg facility but also provides the appropriate frequency inverters. This ensures that customers receive a complete, optimally coordinated drive train from a single source. The KEB-DRIVE tool already takes this step into account and, if needed, can suggest which drive controller might best suit the desired motor. It also assigns the appropriate cables.
