COMBIVIS Safety Editor: New version, new functions

Version 2.0 of the tool for drive controllers now available

Configuring and analyzing safety modules is now even more convenient. Version 2.0 of the Safety Editor within KEB's COMBIVIS automation suite is now available. The update not only creates the technical prerequisites for long-term use of the tool, but also introduces new features. This provides extensive options for adapting the safety-related functions of the drive controllers.

COMBIVIS 6 is the central tool for operating, commissioning, diagnosing, and managing KEB drive controllers. In times of increasingly complex automation requirements, the importance of protecting people and the environment is also growing steadily. The safety module editor integrated in COMBIVIS 6 makes an important contribution to this and can ensure flexible and at the same time safer machine processes. A new safety editor was required for COMBIVIS version 6.8, as the previous version was not available for Windows 11. With version 2.0 of the Safety Editor, this hurdle has been overcome, meaning that the tool will run on Windows 10 and Windows 11 from now on.

The new functions at a glance

The editor is used for the safe editing and transfer of parameters between COMBIVIS and the safety module. As part of the update for Windows, new functions have also been introduced that significantly increase ease of use. Proven elements such as status, settings, and log—a record of past errors—have been retained, but supplemented by parameter settings and a comment section. In addition, there is now an information area where the Safety Editor provides a relevant excerpt from the operating instructions, as well as a message and event window.

The parameter groups remain the same as in the old version of the editor in COMBIVIS. However, IDs have been introduced to distinguish between them, so that each parameter is numbered. If only certain parameters are required, users will now be able to use a filter function. Safety functions have indexes and can be present up to eight times. If you only want to display certain indexes, a corresponding filter is also available. If files have to be loaded from the editor into the safety module, this can be done conveniently via download. Users can use the upload function to transfer data from the module to the editor. Secure configurations can also be exported as JSON files. In addition to JSON files, SPD files can also be imported, meaning that the functionality of the old editor is retained in version 2.0.

How safety works with KEB Automation

KEB system solutions are used in numerous fields of application. The aim is to achieve maximum efficiency with maximum safety. Innovative safety technology creates the conditions for the safety of people and the environment in woodworking, food and packaging machines, and intralogistics.

Our white paper “Functional safety – implemented with KEB Automation” provides a more in-depth look at this topic. Request it here free of charge.

The enhancements also include the print function and the messages area. This lists error messages and provides a search function that returns results from both the parameters and the documentation. “The core of the COMBIVIS Safety Editor is and remains the creation of safe parameter lists that can be called up at any time and transferred to other modules again and again. As an integral part of the KEB development environment, version 2.0 of the editor will be even more user-friendly,” says Bernd Tünnermann, technical trainer at KEB, summarizing the further development of the tool.
