New size for COMBIPERM P1 permanent magnet brake
What makes the brake special and where it is used
COMBIPERM P1 permanent magnet brakes from KEB Automation are backlash-free, friction-locking – and ideal for tight installation spaces. The brake will soon be available in an additional size. The introduction of size 04 closes a gap in the portfolio, meaning that the brake is now available in a total of eleven different sizes for plant and machine construction. The COMBIPERM P1 product series has been a fixture in KEB's range for a long time. A look at the brake's versatile application options explains why this is the case.

"The COMBIPERM P1 is a powerful permanent magnet brake that engages reliably in the event of an emergency stop or power failure, brakes and holds the drive in position. A force field is generated which is cancelled out by the opposite pole of the solenoid coil when energised, thereby opening the brake. In conjunction with the diaphragm spring on the armature, this ensures torque-free separation regardless of the mounting position," is how Thorsten Nolte, sales engineer in the Brakes and Clutches division at KEB, describes the function of the brake. Until now, the permanent magnet brake was available in sizes 0A to 03 and 05 to 10. With size 04, a new standard size has been created and the product range is now complete.
Features of size 04
The torque range of the P1 extends from 0.1 Nm to 194 Nm across all sizes. The new size 04 has a rated torque of 3.5 Nm and a minimum static torque (at 120 degrees Celsius) of 2.8 Nm. The standard power output is 11 W, the maximum hub bore is 12 mm and, with an overall length of just 28.6 mm in the version without hub, the brake impresses with its particularly compact dimensions.
The brake is supplied with a voltage of 24 V as standard, but special voltages can be implemented individually in consultation with the customer. "One of our strengths is clearly the individuality of our products. We know our customers' requirements and always work with them to find the perfect solution. This applies to our entire range of brakes – from the P1 to the COMBISTOP S1 spring-applied brake, which users can choose as an alternative to the classic permanent magnet brake.
Limited space? No problem!
Thanks to its compact design, the COMBIPERM P1 is ideal for use in servo motors or in medical technology. But application areas such as robotics, industrial trucks and driverless transport systems, electromobility and intralogistics also benefit from the brake's features and the availability of the new size 04. KEB brakes can even be found at heights of over 100 metres. The COMBIPERM P1 ensures a secure hold at all times, even in climbing aids for wind turbines.
“In some applications, the available installation space is particularly limited. We solve this challenge by screwing the brake into the back, for example,” says Nolte. No additional flange is required for the screw connection. The permanent magnet brake can be expanded with many options, which further increases the range of applications. If, for example, the installation space or the bearing shield to which the COMBIPERM P1 is to be mounted is round, it can be supplied with a round flange. It is also possible to equip the P1 with ready-to-connect cables with plugs, contacts or even wire end ferrules – an advantage if the connection of the brake in the respective customer application is to be simplified.
