SAFETY CLUTCHES
KEB’s fail-safe permanent magnet clutches and spring-applied clutches offer a safe, frictionally engaged torque in the smallest assembly spaces in the de-energised state. They are ideally suited for use in applications with special requirements.
SAFETY WITH INCREASED DUTY CYCLE
KEB’s permanent magnet clutches are closed-circuit clutches and transmit a frictionally engaged torque in the de-energised state. The system uses the force of the permanent magnets for switching and forms a magnetic circuit via the rotor and armature part. The high field force of the rare earth magnets allows high torques to be transmitted in the smallest assembly space. The frictionally engaged connection is opened by the opposite polarity of the electromagnetic circuit, which is controlled so that the force action of the permanent magnet is cancelled out. By contrast, with spring-applied clutches, the spring force is used to stop the frictional connection, which is cancelled out by an electromagnetic force in the opposite direction.
Some of the preferred fields of application for permanent magnet clutches are tasks with very high duty cycles such as in air-conditioning compressors, hybrid drives or door and hatch systems.
