PROFILE POSITION MODE – CiA 402 PROFILE POSITION MODE

STANDARDISED DRIVE-BASED AUTOMATION

The drive profile according to CiA 402, as specified in the standard IEC 61800-7-201, offers a standardised platform for drive controller-based automation. This takes place via the modes of operation specified in the profile, particularly also through the Profile Position Mode. The resulting relief of strain on the PLC and cost optimisation with direct instant access to the application enable cost-effective, high-quality application solutions, which are standardised and independent of the manufacturer.

Highlights

  • Absolute and relative positioning
  • Freely definable positioning speeds
  • Own ramp generator for the Profile Position Mode
  • Single or Set of Set-Point Operation
  • Rotary table positioning and correction of the rotary table circumference
  • Detection of a positioning from the movement relative or absolute
  • Spindle orientation
  • Target window and tracking error monitoring
  • Hardware and software end layer monitoring
  • Positioning on separate position encoder

FLEXIBLE POSITIONING APPLICATIONS

SOLUTIONS FOR DECENTRALISED AUTOMATION

The Profile Position Mode defined in the CiA 402 (IEC 61800-7) drive profile carries out single-axis position control, which is integrated in the drive controller. Its parameters can be flexibly set for specific applications and therefore directly position drives with asynchronous motors and synchronous motors.

Safety for profile position mode

Functional safety is an important part of automation. In this context, KEB drive controllers carry out safe positioning with integrated safety in Profile Position Mode. Speed-related safety functions, such as SLS, SSM or SMS, and position-related safety functions, such as SLI or SLP, make it possible to secure the positioning application – without requiring any additional hardware.
With Safety-over-EtherCAT (FSoE), the system transmits control and safety-related information, and can therefore enable seamless integration into the safety concept of the entire application for the safety functionality too.

DECENTRALISED AND COST-EFFECTIVE

The Profile Position Mode, integrated into the drive controller, relieves the higher-level PLC of runtime-intensive calculations,
meaning that it only has to perform administrative and handshaking tasks. Positioning and position control are implemented by the drive controller in a time-optimised, precise and direct manner, without any latency of the fieldbus communication. Simple positioning tasks are easily carried out by the built-in function with no additional costs for Motion Libraries licences.
